Default PROBLEM...comp roboot and gfx driver issue

I have been playing Guild Wars for just over a year now, and this just started happening....

About 1-5 minutes after I started Guild Wars and began to play, my computer would restart itself and then go to a black screen that says something along the lines of "Bad BIOS cheksum" and then says something else about my video card (ATI Radeon 9800+). After i saw this, i went to www.ati.com and download the latest driver. Then when I open Guild Wars, the color is very bright and it cannot be changed (not a setting problem). So i did a system restore to earlier before and it worked for a few days, but now i am back to the same old problem.

I know this is not an overheating problem and i also ran a virus scan. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Bad BIOS checksums are very bad news. A BIOS is a very low-level piece of software that allows things like Windows to even interact with and use your hardware. If this gets screwy...well...you're about as close to getting screwed as you can get without actually being there for sure. They can be caused by low CMOS batteries on the motherboard to corrupted chips on the boards.

What exactly is the error message? Please post it verbatum.

This could either be a motherboard issue, a video card issue, or a RAM issue. If your CMOS ROM chip is dying on you it might be able to be replaced (some mainboard manufacturers will just ship you a new one). If it's just BIOS corruption (not sure how that would happen) you might be able to fix it by flashing the CMOS ROM with the BIOS again.

At any rate, it's not good. Not good at all.
